Which of the gods of mankind is the real God?

1. Are there many gods? Millions?

2. Among those millions of gods, how can we be certain which one is the real God?

3. The real God and His name.

4. YHWH the God of the Covenant.

Are There Millions of Gods?

The short answer to the question if men do worship millions of gods is, yes.

The greeks and the romans have multitudes of gods and goddesses.

Hindduism too have a pantheon of gods and goddesses to choose from.

Every tribes around the world have their own ethnical gods and goddesses.

Every religious denomination have their own gods and there are at least 10,000(ten thousand) religions and denominations in the world today. They may call their gods in similar sounding names but a closer examination will reveal that it is a different god.

Though Roman Catholics may deny that they worship many gods, the actual religious practice tells us otherwise, every patron saint of every local parish church is given the treatment and veneration fitting for a god. Christ Himself has many variations from an infant to a corpse that is being venerated by different Roman Catholic parishes.

To add to this, we have to recall that to whatever or whoever we devote our time, our thought and life, practically becomes our own personal god. In this context a self proclaimed atheist who devotes his whole life to advance science, critical thinking or any other option rather than any idea of god is actually making his own version of a god without realizing it.

So the religious reality of our time is this; a person will be born under a certain religious group that worship a particular god, gods or goddesses. In this situation every individual will have to seek the truth about god. When that time of realization come, we then have the opportunity and the responsibility to make sure that we are worshipping the real God. That we are not just worshipping a god just because we were born in a particular race or religion.

Some of the gods that men worship

Who is the real God?

Is there a way to be sure who is the real God?

This is a daunting question, especially that everyone is so emotionally vested to his own way of thinking about religion and god. Try posing this kind of question in an open public forum and see how heated the arguments become, in a very short while.

We are so biased to our own ideas that reasons and proof have no chance in breaking that wall that we put up, so that we won't hear any other side about this issue but ours.

If we are one of these religious fanatics, just remember that the real God is not afraid of examination. That He is kind enough to give everyone the chance to know Him, seek Him, and eventually find Him.

Let us assume that a person is willing to search for the real God even if it is way different than what he believes at the moment. What method can we apply to be sure?

To simplify this process, let us take the fake money detection process as an example. When you want to learn how to tell if a money handed to you is fake or not, what is the best way?

Would you ask to know all versions of fake moneys in existence? Learn every version, all their differences and similarities? This can be an option, and this will surely take your whole life and never finish them all.

Or would you rather know all the signs of the real one? Let us say that there are 12 signs of the real money that should all be present in a money that you are testing if it's real. Will this be much easier to learn? Learning that a money should have all the 12 signs otherwise it is fake is a lot easier to learn than trying to master all versions of fake monies that a forger may create.

Signs of the genuine 100 dollar

It is similar to finding the real God.

You may think that unless you tried each and every religions' gods and goddesses you are not in a position to judge if they are worshipping a fake god or not. But actually you only have to know all the signs of the real God and if those signs are not present in a god, it is therefore a forgery.

Signs of the real God

If a god should be the real God these are the signs or qualities that He should have.

- He should be able to do everything around us, all the things in existence.

- He should be able to tell our beginning up to the end.

- He should have true words.

- He should have no beginning and no end.

- He should be able to be anywhere

- He should be able to create Laws that will govern us and enforce them.

- He should be able to tell about Himself.

- He should be able to sustain our needs

- He should be able to display perfectly the characteristics that men deem good.

- He should be able to keep His own words.

- He should be able to do things in perfect schedule and timing.

- He should have the purpose to remove evil and all its effects.

These are only 12 signs. Not too many, but with these, most of the so called gods of our time will fail to make the grade of being the real God.

To make this search easy for you, the only one that have all those attributes above is YHWH.

Everyone can see for themselves the words of YHWH, it has been transcibed and translated for thousands of years. With those words, we can see if indeed those attributes are present in Him.

Because according to His words:

He said He created everything.

He told our beginning in the book of Genesis and told our end in the book of Revelations

He is said to have no end nor beginning

He is said to be able to be anywhere.

He is said to has given natural laws and moral laws to govern us.

He is said to have made it a point that all those who will seek can get to know Him.

He is said to be able to sustain every need of man.

He is said to display love, power, knowledge and justice in their perfection.

He is said to be able to keep His promises.

He is said to be able to do His will in perfect schedule.

He said He has the purpose of removing all evil and its effect from man.

Please notice that the above list is only 11 out of the 12 of the attributes listed before it. Why? The simple reason is that these 11 depends upon the remaining one. If YHWH will fail in the remaining 1 all these 11 would have no meaning.

What is that all important attribute? Did you notice which one?

It is the attribute of having true words.

When we read that God said something like being able to do miracles, or having created things, telling the future and the likes, all these have no meaning unless we have proven that His words are TRUE.

Do you agree? That if a god does not have TRUE WORDS then all the things He may claim is useless?

So we have to determine first if YHWH's words are true. Having proven that single most important attribute will give weight to all His other written statements.

Is YHWH's Word True?

What can prove that YHWH's words are trustworthy and true?

This should be taken from His words and His inspired writers words then tested in the actual situation that we have today.

We would not try to be exhaustive here, instead we would test general things that YHWH have pronounced and see if it is true.

For those who prefer scientific proofs, here are some:

  • God said through inspiration that the earth is round. (Isaiah 40:22)

  • A limitless universe (Isaiah 55:9)

  • Animals are created according to its kind. (Genesis 1:24)

  • Hydrologic cycle (Ecclesiastes 1:7)

  • Vast number of stars (Jeremiah 33:22)

  • Law of increasing entropy (Psalm 102:25-27)

  • The importance of blood with regards to life (Leviticus 17:11)

  • Atmospheric circulation (Ecclesiastes 1:6)

  • Hanging earth on empty space (Job 26:7)

Why are these important?

These are important because they state scientific truths way before humankind accepted them as facts, those are inspired information that cannot come from a mere human mind which basically refused those ideas because they opposed the popular belief of the times.

So to write something true against the popular belief (and sometime even under the threat of punishment or death) is a proof that the information is not from a man.

Well to be frank, God is not really concerned how we humans view Him in the light of being scientifically correct, so it is not to be expected that we will find His Words to be a pure scientific treatise.

Instead, when God utters a Word it is mostly concerned with our relation towards Him.

Presupposing that we have enough proof to be compelled to listen to Him who speaks. He who created everything.

Many people are led to believe that the whole book we now call "Bible" are all God's word. When actually it is not. That issue will be dealt with in other discourses.

My point is, to prove that YHWH's word is true does not necessarily mean we have to prove that the whole "Bible" is true. Instead we only have to be concerned with those that are actually proven as "inspired" of God or His direct quotations.

Taking the above proofs of YHWH's words being true, it is now safe to continue to examine all other attributes of Him being the real God. While also continuing to examine the truthfulness of every other word of God that we will come across.

God said He created everything and His Word is true. It would mean He really is the Creator.

If you followed my drift, I am saying that if we always find that YHWH's words are true then all of the above attributes which He said He have, will automatically follow to be true as well.

Making Him the real God that we should worship.

Anyway, all the discourses in this site will be for that aim. To prove the veracity of the words of YHWH. So it really does not end here.

How Do We Know That YHWH is God's Name?

We know that YHWH is His name because it is Him who said it is so.

" and I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, as God Almighty; but by my name Yahweh I was not known to them." - Exodus 6:3 (WEB)

This very important utterance of God Himself of His name was translated, transliterated and transcribed in various ways. We have to remember that Exodus was written in Hebrew, and the original name written there is YHWH (Yod Heh Waw Heh).

"YHWH" is called the Tetragrammaton or literally the "four letters". Hebrews do not have the letter J and the letter V. Whoever invented the names with those letters like "JEHOVAH" or "IEHOVAH" was so preposterous as to assign a new name for God.

When God commanded at Exodus 20:7 that His name should not be used in vain, do you think He would take it lightly when someone changes His own name to suit their preference?

There will be books to defend the views contrary to what I am saying here, but we have to acknowledge, even simple people such as we, do not see the logic behind changing a name, for whatever reason unless we expressly agrees to its use.

For example, my given name is "Edwin" but when I went to another country, and they issued me some legal documents with my supposed name written as " E D V V I N ", tell me, is this perfectly ok? They may say it's a translation, transliteration or whatever, for me it is simply NOT my name.

So let us stay with what God has uttered as His name, YHWH. All praise be to Him.

YHWH the God of the Covenant

In Exodus 6, we can read these words of God:

"God also said to Moses, “I am the Lord. I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob as God Almighty, but by my name the Lord I did not make myself fully known to them. I also established my covenant with them to give them the land of Canaan, where they resided as foreigners. Moreover, I have heard the groaning of the Israelites, whom the Egyptians are enslaving, and I have remembered my covenant." - Exodus 6:2-5

This is the proof that YHWH is keeping His spoken Words, His covenant, He is honoring the agreement He made with the forefathers of Israel.

This emphasizes two things:

1. That God does keep His promises (if you can still remember, this is a sign of being the real God.)

2. That Israel is the sole recepient of such a covenant.

Therefore the only real God is YHWH

This is the reason why, it is really wonderful to belong to the people of the Covenant and to have YHWH as our God.

After the exodus and long after those historical incidents, has YHWH kept His covenant? Is that covenant still in place today?

What do the Christ have to do with all of this?
